Join Alisa in the Makserspace and learn about Free Motion Embroidery.
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the basics of free-motion machine embroidery—a playful, expressive way of drawing with thread.
We’ll cover how to set up your machine for free-motion stitching and explore how movement, speed, and pressure translate into line, shape, and texture. Using a variety of thread colours and fabric bases, you’ll experiment with building layered marks, abstract forms, and richly textured surfaces.
This class is all about curiosity and experimentation rather than perfection. Whether your stitches turn into wild scribbles, soft shapes, or unexpected patterns, you’ll leave with new skills, confidence, and a stitched sampler full of creative potential.
This workshop is presented as part of Belonging: Artist in Residence. All materials are provided. Registrants must know sewing machine basics.
